Brand identity and Logo proposal for the international graphic design competition of Genova “A logo for the City of Genova” – October 2013.
. CONCEPT | Our aim is to mix tradition and innovation, yesterday and tomorrow. Studing the evolution of Genova’s emblem is clear that two elements are permanent features: the shield and the cross of St. George. Like God Janus, the city has two faces; turns to its glorious past, guarding and protecting it, but looking ahead. Reinterpreting its symbols, Genova look over.
Our Genova city logo – symbol and lettering – keeps the shield resesigned in a contemporary way and extending the set of meanings: no longer just a simple symbol of tradition, past or prestige, but an icon of a territory / platform thatre of a network. The shield turns into a network of peripheral nodes converging in a central hub, that meas dynamism and centrality. So we have a dual meaning: Genova represented by the shield, is a network, a city where excellence – a cultural, historical, tourist, territorial and technological – communicate and interact.
. PAYOFF | Genova has two faces: on one hand it looks at the mountains – the land, the tradition – on the other hand looks at the sea – the horizon, the unknown. It owns a strong link with its glorious past, but has always been devoted to the future yet to come. It links the experience with its nature for the discovery. The new pyoff is “Genova, a link with the future”, that looks like a paradox between the bond, which indicates a relationship and experience, and the future not yet in our possession.
